Interact District 5160 consists of Interact clubs throughout Northern California, which is the area from Weed all the way down to San Ramon. In this district, there are approximately 55 schools, most of which have Interact clubs. There are currently around 1,700 Interactors in the district and our goal is to reach 2,500 members. 5160 has donated money to Rotary’s project, Polio Plus, as well as Heifer International and LN-4 Prosthetic Hands. The largest amount of money was raised last year (’08-’09) with over $38,000. This year’s project is PACE Universal, which develops schools for young girls in India. The Interactors in District 5160 are dedicated to volunteering and fundraising for a cause. There are also district events, which allow the other Interact clubs to connect with one another. These events are: Interact Kickoff Party, District 5160 Conference, Interact 5160 Retreat, and the Bay Cruise. Besides holding district events throughout the year, District 5160 also provides many opportunities. Interactors who have completed their junior year have the opportunity to go to Camp Royal or Camp Venture. Camp Royal is a leadership camp that consists of motivational speakers and a breakthrough session, allowing one to take a step back and look inside oneself. Camp Venture is a business camp, allowing a group of four to being their own business and to develop marketing and financing skills for that business. There is also a Youth Exchange program, which allows grades 9-12 to study abroad for an entire year, almost all expenses paid.
By being involved in Interact District 5160, members are able to learn life long leadership skills as well as being allowed to take part in experiences they normally wouldn't have been able to. |
